Kiba's Birthday (B-Day Present)

    The temperature was just above 14 degrees Celsius. To the Canadians, that meant that winter was on it’s way out and that spring would be upon the land soon. The sun shone brightly outside Kiba’s window as he laid lazily in bed, still dreaming about last night's hunt with his friend Pie.

    Today was Kiba’s birthday, and his werewolf friend, Pie, from the United States was visiting him. It was only about nine in the morning when Pie slowly opened the door to his room. He took very careful steps with his paws, being sure not to alert Kiba. This was going to be part of his surprise. With his phone in his paw set to the air horn app, he waited until he got next to his bed. Then, he tapped the screen and the air horn was heard throughout the whole house.

    Kiba quickly sat up, looking around frantically for the source of the ear-bleeding noise. Werewolves were much more sensitive to loud noises than a normal human, which is why Pie had on ear plugs.

    “Happy birthday!” He shouted at Kiba, who was still a bit shaken up from the air horn.

    Kiba chuckled a bit. “You got me good!” He said.

    Pie took out his earplugs and said,“So what do you want to do today? It’s your birthday, after all!”

    “Not sure. Cake, video games, maybe a birthday hunt, or maybe I could show you how to use a sword!” He said. The excitement was heard clearly in his voice.

     Kiba had had a rough couple weeks. Between fighting demons with Nara to trying not to get bogged down with his school work, it felt good that he was able to relax.

    “All of that sounds pretty good to me!” Pie chirped.

    They then decided a morning hunt would be a good thing to do. Since Nara wasn’t up yet to make breakfast and the fact that they were starving (as werewolves always do), a morning hunt sounded good.

    They both slipped out the back door and made their way into the woods behind his house. They were only gone for about an hour. When they got back, their muzzles were covered in dry blood, so they used the hose outside and washed off.

    “Want to go play video games?” Asked Kiba.

    “Sure!” Pie said.

    Both of them went into the house and turned on the Xbox and loaded up Minecraft. After playing for a few hours, Nara finally got out of bed.

    “Happy birthday KIba!” She said walking down the stairs. Nara then gave her brother a hug. The both of them began chatting about the rest of the activities planned for the day as Kiba and Pie played.

    Up until dinner time, they played video games and chatted away. Then, it came time for the cake.

    “Okay Kiba, close your eyes!” Nara said as she went to grab the cake.

    Just as she was about to leave for the kitchen, she whispered something in Pie’s ear. Quickly, Pie ran up the stairs and grabbed the present he had been saving for Kiba all year. It was in a long, rectangular box, wrapped in solid blue wrapping paper. The box did have some heft to it as well. Pie ran back down the stairs just as Nara was about to set the cake on the table.

    “Open your eyes!” Nara said. Kiba opened his eyes to see presents and more importantly, a big cake in the middle of the dining room table. It wasn’t one of those cheap store bought cakes either. Nara spent all last night baking it, making sure it was just right. It had real buttercream frosting, with a red velvet cake and sandwiched in between the layers of cake was bacon flavored ice cream.

    The candles were already lit, 16 all lined up in a row. They all sang Happy Birthday and let out a long, joyful howl at the end.

    “Before you open your presents, I’ve got one more thing! Pizza!” Nara said. Both Pie and Kiba wagged their tails. Then, the doorbell rang. “I’ll get it!” Pie said, running over to the door. He opened it up, and a familiar wild dog was standing at the door holding a few boxes of pizza.  “That will be 58.97$.” He said in his Hungarian accent.

    “Sure thing!” Pie said, handing him the money, plus a generous tip of 20$. “Thank you!” Pie said, closing the door. Just before it closed he heard the pizza guy say, “Enjoy your pizza!”.

    Pie made his way back to the table and set the boxes of pizza down. Kiba was allowed to grab the first slices of pizza and cake. Taking 4 slices of steaming pepperoni pizza and 2 slices of cake, he knew his inner wolf would be satisfied.

    After eating many slices of pizza, it finally came time to open up the presents. Nara handed her present to Kiba first. He looked at her small box wide eyed, then Nara said, “Open it!” He sliced the wrapping paper off with his claws and lifted off the top of the box. Inside, he found a handmade necklace, with a werewolf paw pendant hanging off of a chain necklace made from stainless steel.

    “I love this!” Kiba said ecstatically as he slipped it over his furry neck.

     Kiba opened up a few more presents, until finally he got to Pie’s. He took a look at the big long box and already had an idea of what it was. Quickly, he tore off the wrapping paper and lifted off the lid and found a brand new sword, hand made just for him. It was a katana with a red and black handle and his name etched into the blade. A big smile then crept to his face and he looked over at Pie.

     “Thank you so much dude! This is awesome!” He said. He also thanked Nara for her gifts and then went outside with Pie to test out the new sword.

     For the rest of the night, they all chatted and had fun, eating more pizza and cake and even going on a late night hunt together. Not a day would go by when Kiba didn’t think of this birthday and the awesome gifts he got. That day was a good day!
